Our History

James Irvine Wine Consultancy was established in 1981.

Specialising in winemaking particularly but with thirty plus years in marketing and general management. Experiencing these fields there is the rare combination which gives great insight into the wider operations necessary for successful, profitable companies.

The Irvine Wines thirty four years of operation was interwoven with these experiences being formed in 1981. The entry into the wine industry was in 1951 so giving experiences of large company organisations as a solid grounding. The following outline of the positions encountered on the way makes it clear in the uniqueness and range.

Irvine wines successfully lifted the image of Australian Merlot around the world competing at the highest level. Twice world’s best merlot; Australia best red wine and dozens of other awards are proof of Australia having the situations and styles to rightfully fit into global recognition.

Our older daughter Joanne has taken the original wine consultancy to a new level by continuing to consult but with the additional attraction of being expert in small quantity winemaking and barrel storage in her winery outside Nuriootpa.

The many awards for her clients culminated in 2006 when she was named ‘Red Wine Maker of the Year’ by the International Wine Challenge Panel.

Returning to James Irvine Wine Consulting I offer my assistance in many fields as you can see. While I expect this will appeal to smaller wine companies the offer is also open to large wineries too.

Should you wish to have wine made at Joanne’s Winery she will take responsibility for the vintage winemaking while I will be responsible for the off-vintage work.
